Plant Health Care Technician – Mount Vernon, NY


This position serves as tree and plant health care technician with the primary responsibility of monitoring, evaluating, and providing plant health care needs on client properties. The individual will be responsible to handle most routine pest-management operations. Practices and has a basic understanding of plant science and above-average plant and pest diagnostic identification skills. Will be expected to have proficiency in the identification, deficiencies, and problem solving skills of plants and trees. In some cases submits various types of soil samples to be sent in for diagnostic purposes. Follows directions from PHC Coordinator of various scheduled work orders to be completed. Ensures that all company policies regarding safety, storage, and handling of all herbicide, fungicide, and pesticide spray products are followed. Is familiar with products and techniques used to maintain plant health and tree care. Thoroughly understands and practices the correct mixing ratios and transportation procedures of chemicals and organics. Utilizes all appropriate safety protective equipment to adhere to the company’s safety policy. Maintains all required work order record keeping and reporting procedures. Frequently works as a member of a tree care crew, under the crew leader’s supervision when PHC work is minimal (off-season). Participates in all safety trainings instructed by regional trainer or district field office. Interacts regularly with clients to ensure client satisfaction. You can advance to different levels depending on your performance which include; Apprentice, I, II, and III.

Requirements:

  • Must have or be able to obtain local applicator spray licenses
  • Must have or obtain valid CDL license
  • Must be able to identify and recognize local trees and shrubs Pathology, Entomology, and knowledge of tree physiology are necessary to diagnose care options properly
  • Familiarity with soil analysis procedures
  • Follow and abide by all safety rules and policies of The Care of Trees
  • Must perform general tree care work during the off-season
  • Must be a team player and communicate effectively at all times
  • Must be able to follow directions easily and complete the requests of the PHC Coordinator
  • Ability to complete PHC work in a timely fashion
  • Must be courteous and friendly if approached by property owners
  • Participates regularly in all job site safety meetings
  • Ability to successfully pass safety tests
  • Learns and understands the dangers associated with electrical hazards
  • Acclimated to PHC application tools associated with the trade
