The Care of Trees celebrates Arbor Day

This week The Care of Trees has been participating in many activities and events in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day. These are educational events that teach the next generation the importance of trees, tree biology, and environmental awareness. The Care of Trees is also planting a number of tree seedlings throughout the areas we serve.
Below is a list of activities The Care of Trees is involved in this Arbor Day.
CONNECTICUT
- Giving seedlings to 160 children of the Greenwich Academy
- Participating in the Town of Ridgefield Earth Day Festival and Arbor Day Celebration – giving out saplings
- Giving compost tea bottle samples at the “Going Green in your back yard” event for the Fairfield Garden Club
- Demonstrating tree climbing, pruning and cabling at the Norwalk Tree Festival at Cranbury Park on May 16th
ILLINOIS
- Working with a group of Scouts to plant 50 oak seedlings at a nature preserve in Bartlett
- Talking with grade school students in Highland Park
- Participating in the Earth Day Fair at Mary Stitt School in Arlington Heights and educating students on the history of Arbor Day and the benefit of trees
- Displaying an environmental awareness booth during the “Celebrate the Earth” event at The Arboretum of South Barrington
- Planting trees in the Kane County Forest Preserve
- Hosting an Earth Day panel at the Homestead Retirement Community in Naperville
MARYLAND
- Sponsored the Dendrology (the study of tree rings) event at the Mid-Atlantic Woodsmen’s Competition held at Allegany College
- Volunteered for the 29th annual Arborist Day Project at the Rockville Cemetery
NEW YORK
- Presenting Evergreen seedlings to the students of the Ethical Cultural Fieldston School in Bronx
- Teaching proper planting practices and general tree care & preservation measures, as well as supporting the MillionTreeNYC planting program at the Queens Botanical Garden
- Provided tree seedlings to 60 first grade children in Irvington, NY and planted a Kwanzan Cherry tree
- Presenting to kindergarteners at the Ridgeway Elementary school in partnership with the White Plains Beautification Foundation & the City of White Plains.
- Giving presentations at the Croton Harmon School in Croton-on-Hudson, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Yorktown Heights and the John Jay Middle School in Cross River
PENNSYLVANIA
- Dedicated work to The Woodlands Cemetery National Historic Site
VIRGINIA
- Participated in the 19th Annual Leesburg Flower and Garden Festival
- Providing tree service to the National Conference Center in Lansdowne
- Participating in the American Horticultural Society’s spring garden show
- Presenting at the Arbor Day Festival in Loudoun County
- Participating in the Arbor Day Celebration at the Middleburg Community Center
